For customers
What is HaulNet?
HaulNet is a UK haulage load board, a trading name of HAULNET LTD, run by a working HGV driver in Yorkshire. Customers post loads for free, hauliers quote for free, and until 1 January 2027 there is no introduction fee when a customer accepts a quote. You then deal with each other directly. HaulNet introduces you. We're not the carrier and we're not part of your transport contract.
Is it free to join?
Yes. Registering, browsing loads and quoting are free for hauliers, with no subscriptions or platform fees. Posting a load is free for customers. No fee on any job until 1 January 2027. After that, a small capped introduction fee: £5 first time, then 3% (max £30).
Can I sign up now?
Yes. Registration is open now. One account lets you post a load or start quoting straight away.
How much is the introduction fee?
No fee on any job until 1 January 2027. After that, a small capped introduction fee: £5 first time, then 3% (max £30). For example, from 1 January 2027 a £100 job costs £5, a £250 job £7.50, a £600 job £18, and anything over £1,000 is capped at £30. You'll see the exact fee before you pay. A few customers have a separately agreed rate; that is still shown before payment.
Who pays the fee, and when?
Until 1 January 2027 nobody pays HaulNet when you accept a quote — contact details unlock straight away, with no card payment. From 1 January 2027 the customer pays by card through Stripe at the moment they accept a quote. Hauliers never pay a fee. If nobody quotes, or you don't accept a quote, you pay nothing.
How does the £5 first fee work?
No fee on any job until 1 January 2027. Introductions before then are free and do not use up the £5 first-fee offer, so your first paid introduction after that is still £5. From 1 January 2027 it applies once per person or business, and you don't need a code. It's used up when your first introduction payment goes through. If you cancel or let the checkout expire, you keep the offer. If your first fee is later refunded, the offer doesn't reset.
When do we get each other's contact details?
As soon as the customer accepts a quote. Until 1 January 2027 there is no introduction fee, so details unlock immediately. From 1 January 2027, details unlock after the fee payment is confirmed. If a due payment doesn't go through, the quote isn't accepted and details stay hidden.
Why can't we swap numbers or emails before the fee?
The fee is what keeps HaulNet free for hauliers and free to post on, and it means a haulier only gets a customer's details once that customer has committed. Jobs arranged off HaulNet have no record here, so there's no Report a problem, no fee refund process and no reviews. It also makes lookalike emails and payment-redirection scams harder to spot. Phone numbers, emails and links in listings and messages are hidden automatically and checked. Repeated attempts can lead to suspension. Once the fee is paid, both of you get each other's details straight away.
How does the haulier get paid?
The customer pays the haulier directly, on whatever terms you agree between you. HaulNet doesn't collect or hold transport payments. Agree the price, invoice details and payment terms in writing before the job. Pay only into an account in the haulier's business name. If you're ever sent new bank details, confirm them by phone using a number you already trust before paying.
What checks do you do on hauliers?
Document uploads are optional. Hauliers can quote with or without them. Not verified means they haven't uploaded documents or we haven't approved them yet. Verified documents means we checked the papers they sent us at the time: goods-in-transit insurance, hire-and-reward vehicle insurance if they ticked O-licence not needed, and either their current O-licence or their declaration that an O-licence is not needed. That declaration shows as O-licence not needed (declared). It isn't a guarantee of their performance or of insurance cover for your particular load, so for valuable loads it's worth making your own checks. You can look up any operator on GOV.UK's free Find lorry or bus operators service: https://www.gov.uk/find-vehicle-operators
What if the haulier doesn't turn up or doesn't do the job?
Use Report a problem on the job before the deadline shown, which is UK midnight after three full days following the agreed delivery date. That pauses automatic completion while we look into it. A report isn't an automatic refund. After we look into it, the job is completed, carried on with a new date you both agree on HaulNet, or cancelled with a full refund of the HaulNet fee to your original payment method, usually within 5–10 business days. We can't refund money you paid the haulier directly. If a full refund goes through, contact details are hidden again and the booking is cancelled. If only part of the fee is refunded, or a card payment is disputed, contact details are hidden again but the booking is not automatically cancelled. Your statutory rights aren't affected.
What if I need to cancel, or the haulier is delayed?
You can take a listing down for free before you accept a quote. After a quote is accepted, either of you can propose a new delivery date on HaulNet; the other person has to agree before the existing deadline for it to change. If the job isn't going ahead and you can't agree a new date, use Report a problem on the job before the deadline. We don't cancel the separate haulage contract between you, and we can't refund money paid directly to the haulier. If you're a consumer, you may also have a 14-day cooling-off right for the introduction service; business customers generally don't. See Cancellations and refunds for the full picture.
What if there's a dispute about the haulage itself, like damage, late delivery or payment?
The transport contract is between the customer and the haulier, so you sort it out between you, using your own insurance and terms. HaulNet doesn't decide transport claims, but we can help with records from the platform where that's lawful and appropriate. Use Report a problem on the job if you need the booking paused. If you suspect fraud or a stolen load, report it to the police and to us straight away.
How do reviews work?
Once a booking is complete, each of you can leave one star rating and optional feedback. Reviews may be publicly visible on member profiles. They don't decide any separate legal dispute between you.
For hauliers
Does it cost anything to join or quote?
No. Registration, browsing and quoting are free for hauliers. There are no subscription or platform fees for hauliers. No fee on any job until 1 January 2027. After that, a small capped introduction fee: £5 first time, then 3% (max £30).
Do hauliers need documents to quote?
No. Uploads are optional, and hauliers without approved documents show a Not verified badge. You can still quote. To get the Verified documents badge, upload a current operator's licence and goods-in-transit insurance in Documents, or tick that an O-licence is not needed for your work and upload goods-in-transit plus hire-and-reward vehicle insurance. Public liability insurance is optional, though customers often ask for it. Every haulier must still legally hold whatever operator licence and insurance their work needs.
Which documents do I need?
Uploads are optional. You can quote without them, but customers will see a Not verified badge. To get the Verified documents badge, upload your current operator's licence (O-licence) and goods-in-transit insurance in Documents, or tick O-licence not needed and upload goods-in-transit plus vehicle insurance (hire and reward). We check an O-licence on the official GOV.UK operator register. If you've declared that an O-licence is not needed, that shows as O-licence not needed (declared) — we don't check that declaration against official records. We check the insurance is current and in your business name. Public liability is optional. The badge shows we checked your documents at the time. It isn't a guarantee.
What do you check before giving the Verified badge?
Checks are done by hand. Where you've uploaded an O-licence, we look it up on GOV.UK Find lorry or bus operators to confirm it's valid, the right type for hire-or-reward work, and in the same business name. A restricted licence is for own goods only, so it doesn't cover HaulNet jobs. If you've ticked that an O-licence is not needed, we don't check that declaration against official records, and the required papers are goods-in-transit plus vehicle insurance (hire and reward). We check that insurance is current, in the haulier's business name and from a genuine authorised insurer. We may ask for more information. The badge shows what we checked at the time. It isn't a guarantee of performance or of cover for every load. If a document used for the badge expires, the badge comes off until you upload a current approved copy. We'll email you when something is due in the next 30 days or has run out. You can still quote without the badge.
I only drive a van. Do I need an O-licence?
For UK-only work in a van of 3.5 tonnes or less, you don't need a goods vehicle operator's licence. Tick O-licence not needed in Documents, then upload goods-in-transit plus hire-and-reward vehicle insurance if you want the Verified documents badge. That shows as O-licence not needed (declared). You still have to hold whatever licence and insurance the law requires for the work you quote for.
How do I get paid?
Agree payment arrangements directly with the customer. HaulNet does not collect or hold the transport payment. Put the price, invoice details and payment terms in writing before the job.
What happens after I win a job?
When the customer accepts your quote, you'll both see each other's contact details. Until 1 January 2027 there is no introduction fee. Arrange the job and agree payment directly with the customer. After delivery, the customer can confirm it's done or report a problem. If nothing is reported, the booking completes automatically after the deadline shown on the job (UK midnight after three full days following the agreed delivery date). You can mark the job as complete, but that doesn't cut short the customer's window. Once it's complete you can both leave a review. If something goes wrong, use Report a problem on the job, or contact Support.
Why can't we swap numbers or emails before the fee?
The fee is what keeps posting and quoting free. Swapping details early to skip it breaks the terms everyone signed up to. Jobs arranged off HaulNet have no Report a problem, no fee refund process and no reviews, and it's harder to spot scams. Phone numbers, emails and links in listings and messages are hidden automatically. Repeat attempts can lead to suspension.
What if the customer cancels late, doesn't turn up or doesn't pay me?
The transport contract is between you and the customer. HaulNet doesn't pay hauliers and doesn't decide who owes what for the haulage. Use Report a problem on the job before the deadline so there's a record, then sort the haulage side with the customer using your own terms. If you suspect fraud, tell the police and contact Support.
Can I pass a job on to another haulier?
Not unless the customer agrees on HaulNet that someone else can do it. The haulier who quoted should carry the load. Passing a job on without that consent is against the terms, and the customer needs to know who is actually moving their goods.
Staying safe
A few habits that keep both sides safer. None of this is a guarantee, and it doesn't replace your own checks.
Keep it on HaulNet until the quote is accepted
Don't swap phone numbers, emails or links in listings or messages to skip the introduction. Once the quote is accepted, you both get the real contact details. Jobs arranged off the site have no Report a problem, no fee refund process and no reviews.
Check the operator yourself
Look up a haulier's licence on GOV.UK Find lorry or bus operators: https://www.gov.uk/find-vehicle-operators You can also check a limited company on Companies House. The Verified documents badge is a check of papers at the time, not a guarantee.
Watch for lookalike emails
Bogus collection messages often come from an address that's one letter or digit off the real company. If someone emails a new truck, driver, time or collection point, check it on HaulNet or ring the number shown there, not the one in the new message.
Don't pay a 'new' bank account on a message alone
Pay the haulier directly, into an account in their business name. If you're sent new bank details, confirm them by phone using a number you already trust. If money has gone to the wrong place, contact your bank straight away and report it to Action Fraud: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/a-z-of-fraud/mandate-fraud
A changed delivery address after collection is a warning
Confirm any change with the other party's number on HaulNet, or a number you've checked independently, and record agreed date changes on HaulNet. Check that the vehicle and driver who turn up belong to the haulier you booked.
If a load is stolen or you suspect fraud
Call the police (999 if it's happening now), get a crime reference, and tell NaVCIS: https://navcis.police.uk/freight/ Then use Report a problem on the job or email Support. We'll never ask for your password, card details or a password-reset link.
Report anything suspicious through Report a problem on the job, or email [email protected].
